Township of Wellesley Fire and Rescue Service Application
The Township of Wellesley Fire and Rescue Service is comprised of 63 paid-on-call firefighters, one fulltime Administrator, one part-time Deputy Fire Chief, and one fulltime Fire Chief. There are three fire stations within the Township of Wellesley located in the settlement areas of Linwood (Station 51), St Clements (Station 52), and Wellesley (Station 53). The Fire Department responds to approximately 300 calls per year. The Township has a population of roughly 11,500 and approximately 274,000 acres of land covering 103 square miles.
Each fire station maintains a staffing complement of 21 paid-on call Firefighters including one District Chief, four Captains and 16 Firefighters. All stations are equipped with a pumper, tanker, and a rescue apparatus. Our fleet is rounded out with a 75ft. aerial housed at Station 53 in the Village of Wellesley.
Training is an essential part of being a Firefighter and training nights are held weekly. All fire personnel are required to attend a minimum of 20 training nights per year as well as participate in other mandatory training that may occur.
To be considered for the position of Firefighter, applicants must live in the response area of a Township of Wellesley fire station. Firefighters are required to carry a pager and be on call and available to respond to incidents 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Firefighters protect lives and property of the residents of the Township of Wellesley from the adverse effects of fires, sudden medical emergencies or exposure to dangerous conditions created by man or nature. Being a Firefighter requires a significant commitment from candidates and their families.
